Closed String Stairs
‘Closed String’ staircase are made in a simple fashion, but they look beautiful if designed with elegance.
Closed String Stairs are very cost effective as they are done by enclosing the treads and risers with a solid timber. The Closed String is generally finished with either bullnose or curtail treads at the bottom of the flight. These stairs give a more open feel to the first few steps.
The top of the string on this style of staircase would normally be finished with a capping to accommodate the spindles/balusters, which are spaced equally between the newel posts and held in place with infill spacers.
